ok so i just learned that Catholicism isnt Christianity... and that Catholics worship the pope, not Jesus. I was born and raised Catholic.. but I only worship Jesus, and I have never worshipped the pope. I thought I was a Christain! I go to Catholic youth classes, and they tutor about Jesus, so I thought that Catholicism was the way to salvation. Now I want to be a Christian.. so what do I do now?

If you knew Jesus was going to be sacrificed today, and you were anywhere close by so that you could receive to the area, would you (pick as many as apply to you): 1. receive some blood off him, and put it on yourself? 2. Lick the blood, or drink it (as is done in Communion symbolically for Protestants and literally in Catholicism through Transubstantiation) 3. Take a finger or some other body part from him and eat it (again, as in Communion, literal through Transubstantiation for Catholics, and symbolic for Protestants) Now before you receive every bent out of shape, this is NOT meant to be an insulting question. I know that Christians believe that covering themselves in the blood of Jesus brings remission for their sins. So I want to know, if you could do it in PERSON, wouldnt that be a much better thing than doing it symbolically? And the same for eating the body and drinking the blood - wouldn't it actually be better if you could do it in person, REALLY do it instead of having to do it symbolically or through the doctrine of Transubstantiation? Im thinking that if *I* personally believed that Jesus's blood brought about my cleansing from every sin, and eating his body and drinking his blood were commanded by him to do, I would DEFINITELY go to the crucifixion and at least receive some of his blood to put on me. Not sure I'd do the eating and drinking, but at least I'd receive some of his real blood on me - if I were a Christian and believed that blood had the power to cleanse me from every sin. I mean, if his blood could really DO that, who WOULDNT want to go receive some of it on themselves. So please, I would like to know YOUR ideas on this. Would you do any of the three things listed over? If so, which ones? Thanks. Tyler, I've never seen the Golden Compass. Fireball, it's not a waste of time, it's a real question. If you have to do it symbolically now, why wouldnt you rather REALLY do it in person if you could, if it was at every possible? To Star, Midge, and the others: Yes it is symbolic for some branches of Protestantism, but it is LITERAL for the Catholics with the doctrine of Transubstantiation which says that it is the ACTUAL body and blood of Jesus, not symbolic. So please dont call me a hypocrite. Thanks. I am also NOT trying to show that you are cannibals, I am asking since you do these things either symbolically (Protestants) or literally (Catholics, Transubstantiation) why wouldn't you rather ACTUALLY do them in person? To Mike: Again, the Catholics believe it is LITERAL through the doctrine of Transubstantiation, and they do NOT consider it to be cannibalism. Furthermore, you're eating and drinking the body and blood - if you consider this to be cannibalism, then by doing it symbolically you're committing SYMBOLIC cannibalism by your possess definition. Now can we receive off the cannibalism thing? My question is not about that, it's about whether you would go and put the real blood of Jesus on your body, if you could. Or drink and eat his blood and flesh if you could actually do this, because of the power it has, according to Christianity.

I have been thinking about converting to Catholicism, my reasons are; it's traditional, Catholics believe in Jesus Christ, I feel drawn to it more than any other religion, I feel its the most spiritual, and I need that. Are my reasons good? I feel that if I convert, I should want to do it, and I do. But I want to do it for the right reasons. Also, what will I have to do to become Catholic? I've looked it up, and I can't seem to receive a straight answer.

Looking at History: Catholics guide to the Inquestion & Holy Wars, the Zionist Jews have caused violence towards Palistines for a segergated nation, Radical Islams have caused war & political violence. I'd like to stay Christian, but both of our biggest issues with Christian denominations is that they always seem to preach how superior they are by damning another denomination. Is there a Christian Denomination that doesn't preach damnation for another Christian religion? (Catholicism included, there)

My pal is a baptized, practicing Catholic. However, she has never had her First Communion, because her parents stopped practising the faith when she was a child. She has been to confession many times though. During her pre-teens she received communion for years, not knowing about First Communion, until she started to receive serious about Catholicism. Now that she is independent from her parents, she wants to know what she should do now, because she wants to complete her sacraments of initiation. Should she not receive now? Does she not have to follow the communion at least once per year rule? Does she need RCIA? Because in our teens, after she became more serious about her faith, she was the one who told me every about the Eucharist, she does understand about Mass and the Eucharist and transubstantiation. She told me though, she hasn't been able to find this answer, ... so I'm asking for her here. The times she did receive communion... would that not count as her "first communion"? She would like to know what to say to the priest so he can understand her situation. She's a bit shy at times, so that would help.

Please no rude comments!! I am attending Catholic mass tomorrow, and I haven't attended in several years. I have issues with anxiety, and it is very difficult for me in public situations. I am always afraid if I do or say the wrong thing, people will giggle at me. I remember when I went to church when I was younger, I would always feel humiliated when I didn't know what to do or what to say during mass. So for that reason I haven't attended in years, and I was never confirmed. I'm committed to regularly attending mass, I've spoken to the priest via e-mail, and I plan to take RCIA classes. I just need some tips to receive me through tomorrow's mass- when to stand, when to kneel, what to say, etc.? Again, please no rude comments towards me! And please don't use this as an opportunity to bash Catholicism. And please give helpful tips, not "don't be afraid, no one will giggle at you." Those without anxiety probably cannot understand it, but I logically receive that if I screw up no one will giggle, but it doesn't take away the anxiety. Feeling prepared, however, helps a lot more. Thanks in advance for any responses.

why do catholics believe that mary was like flawless and why do they worship her and other saints? why do they do this knowing that it doesnt say in the Bible to do it? not trying to offend, just curious, half my family is catholic but I pick not to be catholic and instead be a non denominational christian, but I can''t help but wonder why if the two faiths are so similar except a few things what happens to people (like if they believe in Christ as the Savior but also pray to mary and saints and go to the pope/priest for forgiveness) no one has ever really been able to explain to me why or how catholics randomly got these ideas? it says in the Bible, in one of the commandments "thou shalt have no other god before me" or something like don't worship anyone or anything else.... SO.....???? Mature and reasonable answers only, people that don't have a faith, I dont care about your "God doesnt exist" comments, so dont comment if you can not answer my question decently Thanks! =)

I was watching a Catholic Mass today, and a group of people referred to as the "elect of the church" came to stand before the altar to be "scrutinized." Before the movie came out someone had mentioned to me that the storyline was going to have elements of the English Reformation. I viewed the movie from that perspective and I definitely thought there were connections to Queen Mary I aka "Bloody Mary" in the Red Queen and her quest to re-establish Catholicism in England with rather violent tactics. I saw elements of the White Queen and supporters including Alice as Mary's sister Elizabeth and those in favor of reforming the religion of England in a more peaceful and compromising manner, and in the end (I guess this is somewhat of a spoiler if you didn't look the movie) Alice ends up being a strong and independent single lady much like Queen Elizabeth...I understand that every the details aren't the same but I felt that it at least mildly alluded to that time period. I was wondering if anyone else saw some of the symbolism I saw or maybe I'm just way over analyzing the storyline. Either way watching it from that perspective helped me like the movie more than the relax of the people I went with :)

elief in the last judgment (sometime said universal judgment) is held firmly inside Roman Catholicism. Immediately upon death each soul undergoes the particular judgment, and depending upon the state of the person's soul, goes to heaven, purgatory, or hell. The last judgment will occur after the resurrection of the dead and the reuniting of a person's soul with possess physical body[2]. The Catholic Church teaches that at the time of the last judgment Christ will arrive in his glory, and every the angels with him, and in his presence the truth of each man's relationship with God will be laid bare, and each person who has ever lived will be judged with perfect justice. Those already in heaven will remain in heaven; those already in hell will remain in hell; and those in purgatory will be released into heaven. The Roman Catholic Church holds no doctrinal position on the fate of those in Limbo. Following the last judgment, the bliss of heaven and the pains of hell will be perfected in that those gift will also be capable of physical bliss/pain. After the last judgment the universe itself will be renewed with a new heaven and a new earth. is that gonna really happen

I came to Paris recently, hoping to obtain a commission in the army. My brother George lived here, he was a captain, but my dad never talked to him. My family is protestant, but George converted to Catholicism, and my dad clip every communications with him. But we met and made it up. George introduced me to his posh friends (Vaudreuil, Rheincy, Beville, and so on). He really goes out with a chilly crowd, and we usually know when something interesting is turning up. Tonight George is on duty, and I decided to visit my girlfriend Diane de Turgis. On my way, I noticed a lot of people, carrying big odd parcels and boxes to the Louvre, when I asked some of them where they went, they gave me the same answer: "Au Louvre, mon gentilhomme, pour le divertissement de cette nuit." I'm really not trying to be a bitch and don't mind if you think I am one anyways. I'm just trying to wrap my brain around this. Here in Atlanta, a priest was found to be having a relationship with a lady and was excommunicated. There was also the famous case in Florida last year of the same thing happening. Yet, when a priest is found to have a "relationship" with a male below the age of 18, they're forgiven and sent to another diocese. AM I MISSING SOMETHING? Is chauvinism so understood by the church that a relationship with a willing female is less forgivable than a "relationship" with an unwilling male? Or is there something else I'm not getting?

I have a question that just occurred to me. Catholics dont eat meat on Fridays, right? Now Im totally serious in what Im about to ask, so please dont take it as an insult. It's not meant to be. Don't Catholics have services on Fridays sometimes, such as Good Friday services, etc. Don't Catholics eat the body of Jesus and drink his blood at that time? Isn't a body, meat? I mean, it IS meat if you take transubstantiation literally as I believe Catholicism does. So why isnt eating the body of Jesus forbidden, but eating other meat is? And if you're going to say that eating Jesus's body is not considered to be meat, why isnt it? No Im not trying to stir up trouble, Robert. In fact I often defend Catholics against the Protestant charges that Catholics worship Mary, pray to statues, etc. This is a REAL question, thanks.

On the death of Queen Elizabeth in 1603, the new Stuart monarch found several varieties of Christianity practised in his three Kingdomes of Ireland, England (and Wales), and Scotland. Which of these denominations posed the greatest threat to the Stuart monarch while James I was in power (1603-25) James himself was Presbyterian, son of Mary Queen of Scots, who was Catholic. But with his laid back attitude towards religion, which one represented the greatest threat?

I do not belong to any religion, but I'm 14 and I think it's time I start being more...faithful? I am going to write a list of what I do and don't believe, tell me what you think I should be. And btw, not everything has to be with what I agree with. Every religion has it's flaws. - Yes I believe in God. - We every sin, but are not born with sin. - I think confession is okay, but mostly just because it's somebody to talk to that you can trust, I don't think you'll go to Hell if you don't go. - I believe that good doings, etc will receive you into Heaven, or at least somewhere along side with God. And I believe that those who have sinned will be stuck here on Earth for eternity. - I do not believe in saying, "Til' death do us part" I believe in saying, "For time, and eternity" - I think that if you are glad with your religion and it works for you, then that's great! I have nothing against other religions. - Don't like atheists. - I believe that praying, meditation, church is very important and healthy for the mind. - I like talking to God, he's like my journal. - I believe that Mary should be honored, and prayed to if desired. - I think abortion is ok, and I have nothing against another race, or homosexuals. - I like traditional values in my church. - I think that a Pope, prophet, etc is a good way to run a religion now days, even though it is not in the bible, without a Pope, Catholicism wouldn't maintain. It's like having a president. - I believe that every person is entitled to their possess beliefs, - I think it's okay to receive divorced. - I would like to have the option of Alcohol, Cigarettes, Coffee, Etc. Btw, My dads family is very Catholic, and my Mom's is very Mormon. I would like to stay in the Christin zone.
